Legendary FBI undercover agent Thomas McShane is one of the world’s foremost authorities on the billion-dollar art theft business, and here he presents a unique memoir that provides a thrilling ride through the underworld of stolen art and historical artifacts. For thirty-six years, Special Agent McShane masked his colorful alter egos in various disguises and chased down $900 million worth of purloined art pieces. Along the way, he matched wits with some of the most devious criminal masterminds of the 20th and 21th centuries in dangerous encounters while working undercover. From Rembrandts taken from the Leon Bonnart Museum in Bayonne, France to Van Goghs snatched from the Armand Hammer Galleries across from Trump Plaza in Manhattan, McShane always brought these world treasures back to their rightful owners. His expertise and indefatigable determination prompted FBI Director William H. Webster to name McShane as the Senior Investigator of the FBI’s expanding Art Squad. Written with veteran true crime author Dary Matera, this captivating account of Thomas McShane promises to be as engaging as it is informative.
